Amazon Tax Code

Amazon Tax Code

Overview

Amazon uses Tax Codes to classify products based on their taxability. These codes help determine whether sales tax should be applied to a particular item and at what rate. This is especially important because different states and countries tax products differently.

For example, here's a brief overview of some common Amazon product tax codes:

These are just a few examples - Amazon uses different tax codes for products with unique tax considerations. To comply with tax laws and regulations, be sure you use the correct tax codes for your products. See the Tax Codes List for a complete list of tax codes.

Enter Product Tax Codes

Sellercloud allows you to configure your products’ Amazon tax codes individually or in bulk. In addition, you can set a default tax code for all newly created products.

You can’t set a tax code for Shadow Products - they will always inherit it from their parent product. Once you set the tax code on the parent product, it will apply to their shadows as well. This behavior cannot be changed by updating your Shadow Persistency settings.

Default

To set a default tax code for all new items on a company level:

  1. Go to Company Settings.

  2. Click Toolbox and select Amazon > Product Defaults.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Select a Tax Code.

  5. Click Save.

This only applies to products you create after configuring the setting and will not update any existing products.

  1. Go to the Product Details Page.

  2. Click Toolbox and select Amazon Properties.

  3. Click Edit.

  4. Select a Tax Code in the Listing Details panel.

In Bulk

To set multiple products’ tax codes:

  2. Create a template with the column header AmazonTaxCode.

  3. Enter the values from the Tax Codes List.

  4. Save the updated template file and upload it to Sellercloud.

The best way to update your products’ tax codes on Amazon after configuring them in Sellercloud is to use the Post to Amazon (Existing Catalog) individual action on the Amazon Properties page or the Launch on Amazon Catalog bulk action on the Manage Catalog page. See Amazon Listings Management to learn more about the different posting options.
