# How are orders processed?

The process of fulfilling an order involves multiple steps. Orders are processed by a series of automated and manual steps designed to **ensure that the correct items** are picked, packed, and shipped in a timely manner.

**Warehouse workers** typically use a system called “ **pick and pack**” to assemble orders.

First, they use a **handheld scanner** or a computer to **locate the items** in the warehouse that are included in the order. They then physically go to those locations and **pick the items** off the shelves. Note that an order may include several goods stored in different locations.

Next, they bring the items to a packing station, where they **check the items** to ensure they are the correct ones and that they are in good condition.

Finally, they **pack the items** into a box or other shipping container and **label the package** with the destination address and shipping information. The order is then **ready to be shipped.**
